Community Profile
The Municipality of North Perth, located in the northern reaches
of Perth County, is a strong, vibrant community. Formerly consisting
of the townships of Wallace and Elma and the Town of Listowel, the new
Town combines the best of small urban and rural environments. Its proximity
to the twin cities of Kitchener-Waterloo provides the added benefit of
big-city luxuries within minutes. These surroundings are enhanced by
a large number of progressive farming operations and stately homes within
our three communities.
The local school system includes two public elementary schools and a
public secondary school in the Listowel Ward, one public elementary
and one private elementary school in the Wallace ward, and one public
elementary
school in the Elma ward. Two universities and a community college are
close by in Kitchener-Waterloo.
Most Christian denominations are represented within
the town or very close by.
Medical facilities include the 50-bed Listowel Memorial
Hospital that provides 24-hour emergency medical treatment and ambulance
service. Eleven resident general practitioners staff the local medical
clinic. A modern, well-equipped volunteer fire
department provides first-class
fire protection to the area. Policing is provided by the OPP, North Perth
Detachment.
The North Perth Public Library provides
a full-service library facility to residents of the community. Day-care
facilities provide
a safe, educational experience for your children.
A vast array of recreation activities for
all ages and abilities is available at a reasonable cost. Three arenas, two public swimming pools, tennis
courts, soccer pitches and baseball diamonds form a basis for an active
and progressive recreation program. The Listowel Golf and Country Club
is described as one of the finest in southwestern Ontario. In 2002, 9
new holes were added making it a 27-hole course. They also added a new
clubhouse, which can be accessed off of Highway 23 North.
The 300+
businesses now located in North Perth find
this environment an excellent source of reliable, skilled labourers,
and services, which help to make them competitive in world markets. Serviced
and unserviced industrial-zoned land is available and waiting for your
development.
