Snow Removal

Overnight Parking – Winter Months

In accordance with Traffic By-Law 78-2006 - (PDF) overnight parking will not be permitted on any Municipality of North Perth streets, or municipal parking lots (Listowel Ward), between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. from December 1st to March 31st.

The fine for overnight parking on streets or municipal parking lots is $15.00.

Vehicles impeding snow removal will be towed away at owner’s expense.


Depositing Snow on Highway or Sidewalk

No person shall throw, deposit, or cause to be deposited, any snow, ice or mud as to interfere with the movement of pedestrian or vehicular traffic.

Section 181 of the Highway Traffic Act states “No person shall deposit snow or ice on a roadway without permission in writing so to do from the Ministry or the road authority responsible for the maintenance of the road”

The fine for violation of Section 181 is $110.00


Snowplough Damage

In accordance with the Winter Maintenance Policy By-law No. 127-2005, it is recognized that during normal snow clearing operations that snow from municipal property will occasionally be placed on private property.

Damage to sod in urbanized areas will be repaired by works staff with topsoil and seed only. The Town does not remediate properties which receive stones from adjacent gravel roads.

Property owners in urbanized areas may place plough markers or stakes, provided they are made of flexible plastic, or wooden stakes no larger than 2” x 2”. Markers or stakes are to be a minimum of 1 foot from the travelled portion of the roadway.
