The Elma Landfill accepts payments, including cash, cheque or debit. North Perth Landfill accounts will be accessible to property owners only.

Landfill transactions that are less than $30.00 will be encouraged to pay by cash, debit or cheque, at the time of the transaction. Landfill transactions that are more than $30.00 may also be left on account to be invoiced (if you are a North Perth property owner).

Landfill accounts will be managed as follows:

  • On a monthly basis, accounts under $30.00 will have an additional $5.00 administration fee added.
  • Interest will be added monthly on overdue accounts.
  • Accounts that are overdue for 90 days will have the balance added to property taxes with an additional $100.00 fee from the transfer to taxes.
  • If you are a tenant and you have an outstanding account, you will not be given access to the landfill until your account is paid in full.

  • Current landfill account (available to North Perth Property owners only)
  • Driver’s license with North Perth address
  • Current North Perth property tax bill

Landfill programs

Please be aware that bale wrap is no longer accepted at the Elma Landfill. The company that previously picked up bale wrap from the Landfill is no longer offering landfill pick-up services.

Farmers and businesses are encouraged to contact Switch Energy Corp. directly to have collection bags mailed to them and bagged bale wrap picked-up from their farm or business. Switch Energy offers this service on a pay-as-you-go system.

North Perth has partnered with Second Wind Recycling, operated out of St. Thomas, ON, for the EPS recycling service pilot project. Second Wind Recycling provides the Municipality with a densifying and removal service of all post-consumer EPS packaging delivered to the recycling depot, and ensures it is recycled by a registered recycler.

Commonly referred to as Styrofoam, EPS is largely used in packaging and food service products. The petroleum based material is composed of 95% air and is not biodegradable. Due to its fragility and low weight, it is a common pollutant in the natural environment. EPS has become even more prevalent with the growth of e-commerce and bulk shipping.

White, rigid, expanded EPS packaging will be accepted. This packaging is commonly from:

  • Computers
  • Electronics
  • Appliances

Accepted materials must be clean and dry. As well, all tape, plastic, stickers, cardboard and other contaminants attached to the foam must be removed.

EPS materials that are not accepted include:

  • Take-out food containers
  • Meat trays
  • Coffee cups
  • Disposable dishware
  • Packing peanuts/popcorn
  • Construction insulation, blue and pink
  • Polyethylene and Polypropylene packaging
  • Foam bags & wrapping
  • Hot tub cover inserts
  • Pool noodles

We introduced a new Mattress & Box Spring Recycling Program in 2017.

To increase the capacity of the Elma Landfill site, we will use the services of Recyc-Mattress Inc. to recycle mattresses and box springs brought to the landfill.

The mattress & box spring recycling program will extend the life of the Elma landfill by approximately 5 years.
