First Youth Poetry Contest – A Success!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
In celebration of National Poetry Month, the North Perth Public Library hosted its first ever Youth Poetry Contest. The contest called for submissions from three age groups (grades k-4, 5-8, and high school) surrounding the theme of joy.
Each division had two winners that were decided anonymously using randomized codes. One winner was a community choice, and then the second winner was decided by Ross Werth, a local published poet.
The kindergarten to grade 4 winners were Harper and Natalie, Grade 5-8 winners were Carter and Tessa, and the High School winners were Eden and Kylie. All poems are on display at the Listowel Branch of the North Perth Public Library.
CEO Ellen Whelan was happy with the turn out for the first contest saying, “The breadth and diversity in how the theme was interpreted brought joy to readers through effective sensory descriptions, to light-humoured commentary. They were a delight to read.”
Poems can be read at the Listowel Library until the end of April, National Poetry Month.
