MEDIA RELEASE

Honouring the Past, Building the Library’s Future

North Perth, November 6, 2026 - On October 20, 2026, the North Perth Public Library Board, United Housing, and architecture firm +VG welcomed over 175 community members to engage with the Library Project visioning exercise! Over the 10 hours, hundreds of questions were answered, over 200 sticky notes of comments were collected, and concerns were voiced.

“We want to thank everyone who came and engaged with the vision for the Library Project,” said CEO Ellen Whelan. “We had so many great discussions, but one thing holds true: our community loves our library and loves our Carnegie building.”

The Carnegie portion of the library was built in 1907 and is a designated historic building for Listowel. In all iterations of the Library Project, the Carnegie is to be retained and celebrated. Work is currently underway to maintain the building as eaves are replaced.

Moving forward, the comments and conversations will be collected and considered for the next phase of drawings by architects at +VG.
