Making a mark on the Listowel Branch - Collaborative mural painting coming to North Perth Public Library

The North Perth Public Library (NPPL) is inviting the community to come make their mark on the Listowel Branch by joining in on a collaborative mural created and led by local artist Roshan James.

Roshan James, an Indo-Tibetan interdisciplinary artist located in Perth County, was commissioned to create a mural for the entry way of each of the three branches of NPPL. While the Atwood Branch and Monkton Branch murals were completed and hung up in 2025, Listowel Branch’s piece is waiting for community involvement.

Now, the Library and artist Roshan James are inviting community members to be a part of the final mural and to make their mark on their library space. The meaning behind the three murals called “Voices of Unity” is rooted in community, connection, inclusion, diversity, and unity, making collaboration the perfect way to close out the commissioned works.

“We want these paintings to reflect our community, and what better way than having our community help create it,” says Hayley Dietz, Coordinator of Digital Initiatives for the North Perth Public Library.

The collaborative event will take place on Saturday, June 6, from 10am-3pm in the Listowel Branch of the North Perth Public Library located at 260 Main St E, Listowel, Ontario. Opening remarks will take place at 10am with words from artist Roshan James and Library Board Chair Terrance Ritchie. Community members are welcome to drop by any time between 10am-3pm to participate.

“This art piece will be a permanent fixture in the Listowel Branch, greeting you when you walk in from the back parking lot, and the hope is that not just this year, but in the decades to come, you see yourself in the mural. Whether you, your mom, grandpa, friend, child, or neighbour participated, we just want it to be personal, and make you feel connected, seen, and welcomed,” says Dietz.

This is an all ages event, open to all members of the community, with or without artistic experience. The Voices of Unity event is meant to bring together all walks of life, celebrating connection, unity, and the North Perth community.
