North Perth Initiates Mayor’s Budget Amendment

North Perth, March 24, 2026 – Following Council’s endorsement on March 23, 2026, the Mayor has initiated a 2026 Budget Amendment under the Strong Mayor Powers framework in accordance with the Municipal Act, 2001.

The amendment reflects updated cost information received after the budget was approved in December 2025. Key changes relate to externally controlled services, including the Ontario Provincial Police contract and the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority levy.

The amendment also removes the Perth Meadows operating budget following the transfer to United Housing. As this program was self-funded, there is no impact on the tax levy.

The updated budget would result in a $118,025 increase to the general tax levy, bringing the total general levy to $23,194,694. This represents a combined tax increase of 7.15%, or approximately $173.82 annually ($14.49 per month) for a median residential property.

Three capital projects are also included and will be funded from reserves, with no impact on the tax levy.

Council may propose amendments within 20 days, followed by a 1-day mayoral veto period and a 13-day Council override period, if required.
