North Perth Launches New Public Safety Video to Share a Powerful Message
North Perth, October 10, 2025 – The Municipality of North Perth and the North Perth Fire Department are proud to launch a new Grain Bin Safety Public Service Announcement (PSA) created by Memory Tree Productions. This impactful 60-second video raises awareness about the serious risks associated with grain bins and promotes safe practices within the agricultural community.
Grain bins present significant hazards; within seconds, a person can become trapped in flowing grain, leading to suffocation or serious injury. Produced with support from local emergency services, the PSA delivers a powerful message about prevention, emergency preparedness, and working safely around grain.
“Grain bin emergencies are preventable,” said Fire Chief and Manager of Development & Protective Services, Janny Pape. “This PSA is an important reminder that safety always comes first, even during the busy harvest season.”
“We’re grateful to Memory Tree Productions, Perth County EMS, and the Kloostra and Tollenaar families for helping us share this life-saving message in such a powerful way,” Pape added. “We also appreciate the generous corporate sponsorship from Hensall Co-op and Meridian Manufacturing that made the production possible.”
“We wanted this project to connect emotionally while delivering practical information,” said Pape. “Our goal is to remind those working in and around grain bins and silos to have a plan, lock out/tag out, work safe, and go home safe.”
The PSA has launched on North Perth’s social media channels during Ontario Agriculture Week.
Earlier this year, the North Perth Fire Department introduced a four-gas device loan program through the North Perth Public Library and offered Confined Space and Lockout/Tagout training through Set 7. The goal of these initiatives is to reduce grain bin and silo emergencies. According to Ontario’s Ministry of Agriculture, grain entrapments can be fatal, highlighting the importance of these prevention efforts.
