Dog Registration and Tags

Please view the information below to learn how to register your dog with the Municipality of North Perth and North Perth's dog tag process.

Dog tags

Why do I need to register my dog?

The Animal Control By-law requires that all dogs living in North Perth be registered.

A dog tag is the best form of ID for your dog and will assist in recovering your dog if it is lost.

How do I register my dog?

New Dogs or Residents

New residents who are dog owners or existing residents with a new dog can register their dog(s) using the online Dog Tag Application. Once you have completed and submitted your application, you will receive an invoice from the Municipality for payment.

Process for Existing Dogs

The Municipality invoices dog tags on an annual basis. If you no longer have a dog(s), we ask that you contact Reception at 519-291-2950 ext. 2086 or reception@northperth.ca to have your name removed from our list.

In 2021, the Municipality moved to a generic dog tag system with no year on the tag. Your dog will have the same tag while they reside in North Perth. Invoices will be sent out annually for tag payment. All dog tags are $25 and payments are due by February 28th. Fees will double after this date.

Once you receive your invoice, please use one of the following options for payments:

  1. Attend the Municipal Office at 330 Wallace Ave North Listowel
  2. Dropbox feature at the Municipal Office located to the right of the front doors. We ask that you only pay with cheque/bank draft with this option. Please make sure your payments are in a sealed envelope and clearly marked.
  3. Mail cheque payable to the Municipality of North Perth.
  4. Telephone or online banking choosing “North Perth Accounts Receivable” using your 10-digit customer number found on your invoice.
  5. E-transfer – please contact us at 519-291-2950 ext. 2086
  6. Your Financial Institution can also make these payments if you provide them with the invoice.

Please note a $10 transfer fee will be applied to any payments made to incorrect accounts.

Kennels

Anyone who wishes to obtain a kennel licence must contact the Clerk. It is important to contact the Municipal Office prior to building any type of kennel structure, etc. as there are certain zoning requirements and standards in place.

Keep your dog(s) on a leash

All dog owners must keep their dogs on a leash and abide by "poop and scoop" regulations.

Animal control will be actively enforced in all parks and trails within North Perth. Charges will be laid for those found in contravention of the By-law.

In accordance with the Provincial Offences Act, owners will be issued a set fine as set out in the Animal Control By-law if the Animal Control Officer impounds an unregistered dog or a dog running at large.

By-laws

Animal services in North Perth are regulated under the Animal Control By-law. If you have questions about this by-law contact the Clerk at 519-292-2062.

Lost and found pets

If you see a dog running at large, please contact the Stratford Perth Humane Society at 519-273-6600.  The Township contracts the services of the Humane Society to assist in canine control matters.

To report a lost or found pet, please contact the Humane Society directly or find more information on their website.
